Citizens Want Slot MachinesThe group Citizens for Wyandotte County Gaming, are trying to get slot machines legalized at the Woodlands. They have gotten together a group of people and have been petitioning and urging residents to vote yes on the upcoming gaming referendum election. The leaders of three of the cities in the county – Kansas City, Bonner Springs and Edwardsville – met with residents and the group on the courthouse steps to urge residents to vote yes. They say that if they can bring in slot machines to the Woodlands they can prove everyone wrong. The election is to be held on June 26th and voters must say yes to both questions. They are going to be asked if they support a casino coming into the county, and they are going to be asked if they will approve a maximum of 800 slot machines at the Woodlands. The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce says that they are urging residents to vote yes, and that they have the support of the Mayors of the three communities as well. The cities have all promised to work together to get the slot machines approved, for they believe that it will benefit all of the counties. They know that the amount of slot machine revenue that would come in from that many slot machines would do a lot of good for the counties, and are pressing their residents to see the good that it would do. Not only would it bring in revenue, but the slot machines would also bring in about 1,500 permanent jobs and 2,500 construction jobs.
