Session Ends with Unanswered QuestionsThe Maryland General Assembly 2007 finished up leaving many unanswered questions for those that were looking for them to legalize slot machines. The slot machines were not ultimately legalized, and thus leaving many trying to figure out how the budget deficit will be dealt with next year, since it was not dealt with this year. Some legislators had pushed for the legalization of slot machines to repair the debt, others wanted to increase the price of gasoline – however, many say that they cannot afford to pay the price of gasoline now, so why not legalize slot machines? Legislators say that next year they are going to have to make some tough decisions in regards to the funding problems, as they are going to need to increase taxes, they are going to need to legalize slot machines, and they are going to need to make drastic cuts as well. They say that they chose not to pass any bills assisting the deficit until they were in office a little longer and could truly decide what the best course of action was for the state. However, other delegates say that all the governor and the state did was to push off big problems so that they could become huge problems next time around. They say that nothing was solved, they have actually only made things worse. They say that if they had legalized slot machines they could have started making some money off of them while they decided what to do with the other taxes.
