Gambling is a Cultural ExperienceGambling is not usually thought of as a cultural experience, but that is because the gambling and slot machines that we think of today are not the same as they were in the past. Gambling is now often seen as seedy and a degrading hobby for the poor and uneducated, but it used to be more. According to John Wong, M.Ed., Chinese society has embraced and made gambling a part of their society for literally thousands of years. They have played Mah-Jong for centuries, and feel that a little bit of gambling is healthy. They think that gambling is necessary for the relaxation that all require from time to time, but they do note that gambling, if done in an excessive way, will be bad for your “mental health.” Their forms of gambling are encouraged and considered to be “healthy” for your soul. Across the ages, there have been many other cultures that supported gambling, as long as it did not go to excess – with the United States being one of those countries that embraced it to some extent. As with anything, even water, a little is good for you, but too much will make you sick. As long as it is one in moderation, one should feel free to enjoy it.
