It May Be Illegal Here, But That Doesn’t Mean They Can’t Profit

Internet and online gambling may be illegal for United States citizens, but that hasn’t stopped many US companies from profiting off of the online gambling sites that are focused on other countries. Several companies have either opened or are advertising sites that cater to UK customers.

Yahoo! Inc. has announced that they are opening an online poker room which they are hoping UK customers will enjoy. The Las Vegas Sands is doing the same thing. It doesn’t matter that we can’t play, because other countries can. It also doesn’t seem to matter that our country won’t let other countries in, they didn’t make the same rules as us so although they can’t come here to shop their sites, we can go there.

Some companies have not been as fortunate; take Harrah’s Entertainment for example. They tried and failed back in 2004 to bring online gambling to the UK, but it only lasted six months before it closed down. But that won’t stop other companies from trying.

There are some companies that you would least consider for getting involved – like the Walt Disney Company. They are running ads for Bet365 and Skybet on their ESPN.com site. It is just a matter of time before everyone who has a little bit of money opens a site in the UK.
