PA and Shuffle Master Table GamesIn a move that surprised and/or angered many in Pennsylvania – gambling regulators approved a new kind of slot machines – a video version of a table game. This means that although they are not actual table games, they are very similar to them – only they are in the shell of a slot machine. They allow for multiple players, and have electronic video dealers instead of an actual human. Gambling
regulators say that the only way they could approve the games is
if they were run like slot machines. What that means is that the
odds must be random and however one player chooses to play
cannot affect the outcome of the game for another – or change
their odds in any way. Those that were initially opposed to slot machines say that this is not what the voters approved, and that table games are illegal in the state no matter how you package them. They want the games outlawed, and say that if the gaming board allows them in the casinos it will only be a matter of time before actual table games start showing up in casinos. They say there is no difference between the two – and that the Gaming Control Board knows that.
