Idaho Could Take a Clue from New Mexico

There are those in Idaho that would like to see a similar scenario play out like the one that just did in New Mexico. They say that with a race horse from New Mexico winning the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, that this could be them if they simply took a page out of their rule book. New Mexico was having problems very similar to those that Idaho is currently having, but they solved them by bringing slot machines to their race tracks.

In Idaho slot machines are illegal at race tracks, but many would like to see that changed. They say that New Mexico was having similar problems and so in 1997 they added slot machines to their tracks. This then gave them a huge boost in revenue, and they were able to turn around a truly suffering industry. The money from the slot machines let them offer bigger purses and bigger payouts to their horse trainers and put them back on the map.

If Idaho took a good look at what they have done, they would see that slot machines were very beneficial to both the industry and the state. When the horse racing industry is doing well, the state also does well because of the additional revenue that is coming into their coffers. The slot machines may have built up their horse racing industry, but they also filtered off into the state budget as well.

There are many other things within the state that need funding, and by adding slot machines they could not only do that, but they could also allow for the horse racing industry to start doing well again. The industry is responsible for thousands of jobs and this would allow them to hold onto those jobs as well as bring in more.
