Senior Slot Machines?

Whether or not Delaware is going to legalize slot machines is still very much in the air. There are those that say that the Northeast has been so inundated with slot machines that to add anymore no matter what state you are is simply overkill. Then there are those that say that their state should get slot machines simply because everyone else has them. They say that their residents are going over state line and playing the slot machines so why shouldn’t they be able to offer them here and keep the money for themselves?

That is really one of the bigger questions though – in keeping the money for themselves, where does the money go? Who gets whatever proceeds might come from the slot machines? Each state varies where they are going to apply the money, with most states saying that it should pretty much go to education in some form. States like Florida use their slot machine revenue to fund public schools and to offer higher leaning scholarships.

By offering the slot machine revenue to schools, it seems to appease those that think that slot machines are the devil’s work and should not be allowed. But there are some that think that there are other just as worthy causes that should benefit from the slot machine revenues. There are those that say that especially in Delaware, the elderly population needs to be taken care of.

In the state of Delaware there is actually a very high elderly population, and they need to have more funding than what is available currently. Over the past year alone, funding has been cut from 8-10% for the various funding programs. Slot machine revenue could do a lot to shore up that loss of funds.

Senior centers have found themselves over the past few years short of funding, so these latest cut backs are especially hard for them. But if the state got slot machines, some of that money could go towards bolstering their budgets and putting back some of the things that they desperately need.
