Why Do Some People Gamble?

This is an interesting question, as many people do it and not just in the big ways. There are those that go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City and they gamble at the slot machines or the table games, etc. in an attempt to win some big money. Then there are those that gamble through the purchase of lottery tickets. Then there are those that gamble on a simple basketball or football game. Then there are those that simply gamble on who is going to win something like American Idol. How often do you say to someone “I bet you that…” and it is a perfectly acceptable form of gambling?

There are very few people who haven’t gambled on at least some part of their lives or had some experience with it – but why do some gamble more than others? A lot of it has to do with what you do to gamble. If you are a slot machine player then it is usually because you are ready for the challenge and the thrill that comes from gambling. If it is table games that takes your fancy, then it is more about the camaraderie that you get from sitting at the table and playing cards or what not with friends and acquaintances.

The biggest difference though is that when you play at a slot machine, you should expect not to win, and those that do expect to win are usually those that develop a slot machine addiction. The fact of the matter is that most people will lose more than they get back from a slot machine.
