New Hampshire Senate Votes for Slot Machines

There has been a lot of give and take when it comes to the New Hampshire government, as to whether or not they were going to approve the addition of slot machines in the state. There have been a number of bills put forth that lawmakers have tried to get through, but there has always been something about them that someone didn’t like. First they were trying to get slot machines legalized, but online gambling made illegal. When everyone fought back against the additional language they took it out, but that still didn’t make everyone happy.

So they tried to get 17,000 slot machines legalized in the state with six locations. Two of those locations would have been along the state’s border with Massachusetts, but again they were shot down. That bill would have also allowed video slot machines at three race tracks, two sites in the northern part of the state, and a golf course resort to be located in Hudon. Then the bill came forward again, this time with 10,000 slot machines and four undesignated locations. The Senate likes this version with one caveat - they don’t want the tax hikes that the House had passed with their version of the bill. So they approved it without that part – and now it goes back to the House to see if they approve it as well. They have two weeks to come to an agreement as to how the bill will read and what will ultimately be approved.

Many think that the slot machine bill is ultimately a good idea as it could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars for the state which is drastically needed for their budget shortfall.
