DeWeese Adds Provision to Slot Machine BillHouse Democratic Leader H. William DeWeese has added a provision to a gambling reform bill that will give Greene County half of Fayette County’s slot machine revenue. Instead of getting roughly $550,000 in slot machine revenue, the county will now only get $275,000 – which makes a big difference to the state. Fayette County will have a 500 slot machine casino and Greene County will not, so DeWeese says this is his way of sharing the wealth throughout neighboring counties. Problem is, why doesn’t Washington County have to share their slot machine revenue as well – as they have a slot machine casino too? State Senator Rich Kasunic (D-Dunbar) said that DeWeese had tried something similar to this earlier, when Act 71 was passed two years ago. He said that the first time DeWeese tried this they caught it and it was taken out of the language of the bill, and was outraged that he would try it again. Kasunic says he does not see it becoming part of the bill now and DeWeese’s camp says that he would not hold up the bill on this one provision. The provision was put in to help Greene County only, and would not affect the other 13 gambling licenses that will be awarded across the state. Back to November Index - Slot Machines Fan |
