EasyCard Slot MachinesThe EasyCard Company has gotten themselves into a little bit of trouble over their new add-value machines. Two Taipei city councilors have charged the company with changing their machines to slot machines, which they say are the same as the slot machines you find in Las Vegas. The company just spent NT$2.5 million changing all of their old “suck in” machines into “flat bed” slot machines. They announced at a press conference that 1,014 passengers have been cheated since the company made the changes last July. "All of them have been cheated out of their money," said city councilman Chow Wei-yu. Out of the passengers that were cheated, 314 of them got their money back, but only because “the money was returned in the refund slot, and passengers who lined up behind them to operate the machines picked the bills up and sent to them to ticket offices.” The rest of the passengers lost NT$236,600 on the slot machines. Supposedly the customers inserted money into the slot machine to add value to their Easy Cards and got no money back. The company says it is because the slot machines are slow, and the customers did not wait long enough for the transaction to be completed. They said they have changed the machines to make them operate faster, and any passengers that have been shorted can go to a ticket office to see if they can get reimbursed, which is something the council is demanding they do.
