Election Day is Coming

We are less than two weeks from Election Day, and Ohioans are still fighting fiercely on opposite sides of the slot machine issue. As it gets closer to the date where it will be decided, there are more and more of those who support and oppose the issue coming out to speak their minds.

Lobbyist Neil S. Clark is supporting Issue 3 to bring slots to Ohio. At a meeting of the Columbus Rotary Club yesterday he said that Ohioans already gamble in neighboring states, so why not add slot machines to Ohio and keep that revenue for the state? He also said that with the millions of dollars from slot machine revenue that is going to fund education, how they can say no is beyond him. He said, "For the first time in a long time, the people of Ohio can go to the polls and vote on something that will change their lives, the lives of their children and the lives of their grandchildren."

David P. Zanotti was also at that debate, and he is opposed to bringing the slot machines to Ohio. Zanotti said that by bringing in 31,500 slot machines you were going to end up with a whole lot more gambling addicts than they have now. "The fact is, they are asking you to doom your neighbors, fellow Ohioans, to a lifetime of addiction," Zanotti said.

He also pointed out that there has been no clear cut numbers yet, and that every time the group comes out with a number it is debated and refuted by another group. He said that the numbers are less than half of what the group is promising, and that the only people who will make any money from this are those that own the slot machines.
