Florida Slots Trucking Along

Broward County approved slot machines for their four racetracks, and has been slowly and silently bringing in the first slot machines. Meanwhile, there have been all kinds of press and competition in Pennsylvania to see who will be the first up there to bring in slot machines. The press is so busy writing about PA getting their first slot machine casino that no one has realized that Florida will actually open theirs first.

They had their first slot machines come on October 20th at the Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino, and will be opening within the next two weeks. Hollywood Greyhound Track is close on its heels, and will be opening shortly thereafter.
So while Pennsylvania continues to dominate the news, Florida’s slot machines will be turning on in the next few weeks, way ahead of Pennsylvania’s time tables. They approved slot machines two years ago and are just now moving ahead with them.

Granted, PA is planning on bringing in 61,000 slot machines, and Florida is only planning on 6,000 slot machines, but the Seminole Indians are working to get their approval for slot machines also, so that number will rise significantly once they are approved.
