Ohio Slot Machine RegulationsProponents of the slot machines think that the regulation problems that have come up recently is just one more way for opponents to try and block bringing slot machines into the state. The regulations will be decided upon by a bipartisan five member committee, but since the regulations have not been spelled out, it will ultimately fall in the laps of state lawmakers who don’t want the slot machines in the first place. Ohio has decided to pattern their regulations after Nevada’s, as they are considered to be the best and toughest rules by many in the industry. Their main concern is to make sure that corruption does not end up playing a big role in the new industry. So far, Ohio’s gambling history has been fairly clean, with one investigation in 2004. It was discovered that a jockey had intentionally lost a race, and thus he was banned from the sport for life in Ohio. Opponents say that they don’t really think that corruption will take over the slot machine industry in Ohio, but the main problem is that there are no road blocks to stop it should it choose to come. Opponents also say that with the gambling state lawmakers could be influenced to passing weak regulations, and that in itself is the lead to corruption. Back to November Index - Slot Machines Fan |
