Philly Group Says No to Slot Machine LicenseWhen Pennsylvania legalized slot machines and decided to give out slot machine licenses two years ago, they probably did not know all the hoopla that would surround the legalization of the slot machines. Now they have a group that is asking the state to not proceed with the issuing of those slot machine licenses. The group consists of civic groups, residents, etc. that are requesting that the five slot machine licenses not be issued. The five slot machine licenses they are talking about are for stand alone slot machine parlors that would be distributed throughout the state. They are part of the 14 slot machine licenses that will ultimately be awarded. There are 13 companies vying for those slot machine licenses. The group says that the law did not truly gauge the effect that the slot machines would have on the state. In particular, they are concerned with the communities that will be immediately surrounding the slot machines. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board must determine the social impact for the issuing of those slot machine licenses, and the group doesn’t think that the parameters given them are sufficient enough for them to make the decision that will ultimately impact those slot machine areas.
