New Pro Slot Machine Climate

Florida already has gambling – they allow Jai Alai, Bingo slot machines, lottery, greyhound racing, etc. But any sort of slot machine gambling expansion past that point really has not been an option as long as Governor Jeb Bush was in office. He was opposed to any expansion in slot machines and gambling, but now all of that is about to change.

First voters in Broward County voted to allow slot machines at four local racetracks. That in itself is a huge deal for Florida as many have wanted slot machines but they have not been allowed. With Broward County allowing Class III slot machines to come in, it now opens the door for other counties and the Seminole Indians to bring in slot machines as well. Under federal law, the Indians are allowed to have the same type of slot machine gambling as what is offered anywhere else in the state, so they can now have Class III slot machines also.

But in addition to the new slot machine law, there is another significant change to the state – they are getting a new governor. Both candidates for Governor have said that although they want limits to gambling, they are both pro-gambling. Neither wants to see slot machines on every corner, but they are open to some slot machine expansion within boundaries.
