Slot Machines Not on BallotMany in West Virginia think it is a mistake not to have some sort of slot machine or gambling measure on the ballot this year. They think that the number of slot machines that are coming in to Pennsylvania, as well as the fact that Ohio is looking to possibly approve slot machines as well, tells them that their state is going to take a hit in their slot machine revenue if they don’t do something. They want to expand gambling to add table games and slot machines as well. Officials within the state estimate that somewhere around 25% of the gamblers that come in to Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming are from Ohio. Before, they didn’t really have to worry about a huge effect – as they knew the legalization of slot machines in PA would affect them somewhat in the Northern part of the state only. But if Ohio legalizes slot machines as well, then they are really going to see a decrease in their slot machine revenue. It is imperative to the economic welfare of the state that they hold on to as much slot machine revenue as they can. Many of their areas that will feel the pinch of their slot machine revenue are areas that need it more than others in the state. They are areas that have felt the decline of industry and manufacturing, and have slot machine revenue to replace it. There is much concern about layoffs with the loss of that slot machine revenue.
