Slot Machines Up and Running After HurricaneThe Delta Downs slot machine casino is happy to announce that they are finally able to offer thoroughbred racing again. The racetrack was closed down for repairs after Hurricane Rita came through and damaged the slot machine casino and racetrack. They have been closed for 19 months, but are now ready to offer racing again as of November 1st. The slot machine casino will be running the races for 88 nights, closing on March 31st of next year. They were hoping to be able to be open by last January, but it was just not able to complete the repairs in time. The hurricane came through last September, and Boyd Gaming, the slot machine conglomerate that owns the track, has spent more than $41 million in reconstruction of the slot machine casino and racetrack. Boyd Gaming spokesman Rob Stillwell thinks the track is better than before the hurricane. They have added many new features, and have repaired the slot machine casino, the barns that hold the horses, as well as damage to the track itself. "We are very excited about starting the Thoroughbred season after months of delay," Stillwell said. "The repairs we made were significant, primarily to the older parts of the track." The slot machine parlor of the track was able to be open this whole time, having opened just 43 days after the hurricane came through. Back to November Index - Slot Machines Fan |
