The Race for Slot Machines

Now that Broward County is finally getting their slot machines, there has been a kind of race among the casinos down there to see who can get their slot machines up and running first. It looks as though Gulfstream has won the race.

Gulfstream received the first of their slot machines on Friday, just beating the Mardi Gras Casino to have the first slot machines delivered in Florida. Not only did they win the race to get the first slot machines delivered, but they are also going to be open before the other casinos as well. They are planning on a mid-November opening, which will make them the only casino open before the end of the year.

Mardi Gras is planning on having its slot machines up and running in January 2007, and they were the second group to receive their slot machine order. Pompano Park however, is seemingly unperturbed by the slot machine race. They are keeping mum about most of the details of their slot machines. Where the other two are trying to get as much press as they can on everything from when they are opening to what kind of slot machines they will be running – Pompano Park has said very little.

They are planning on opening in January as well, but are not talking when it comes to the type of slot machines they are bringing in. They are getting 1,500 of them, but Steven Wolf, senior director for racing operations at Isle of Capri said, ''We are not at liberty to discuss what deals we have with different slot machine companies at Pompano, but we can guarantee you that our patrons will be very happy.''
