Slot Machine Time Table

As slow as the process has seemed to go for Act 71 – the law legalizing slot machines in Pennsylvania, there have been things going on that most are unaware of. For starters, there have been some changes made to the slot machine law, those changes were just approved in the Senate and are now off to the House to be approved as well. One of the main things to come out of this is that the slot machine middlemen have been eliminated; they are now optional instead of mandatory. There have been other changes as well, but that is presumably the biggest one.

However, before you know it, there will be 14 slot machine casinos open around the state, with them beginning to open this month. The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is the first to open their doors, as they have announced they will open their slot machine parlor on November 14^th. Close on their heels will be Philadelphia Park, which will open its racino on December 18^th. Shortly thereafter will be Harrah’s Casino at Chester Downs, and their slot machines will start running January 16^th.

But that of course, is not the end of them. In February, Presque Isle Downs will open, which will eventually have its slot machine parlor be a part of a thoroughbred track which won’t be open until September. The Meadows in Washington County is hoping to have its temporary slot machine casino open in May, and Penn National won’t open until late next year.

The seventh slot machine casino/racetrack will not open for awhile, as no one has made a decision as to where it will be yet. There will also be five non-racetrack slot machine casinos that will open in various locations across the state, but none of those have definite locations yet. So although it seems as if nothing is happening in the world of slot machines in PA, they will be here before you know it.
