Spitzer Will Decide Slot Machine FateGovernor-elect Eliot Spitzer will decide whether or not the largest slot machine parlor in the county comes to Queens or not. The Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park was considering opening a 4,500 slot machine terminal this year, but it is currently on hold after the owner declared bankruptcy. Many blame the delay on the New York Racing Association. "The delay in approving this is what drove us to bankruptcy in the first place," said Aqueduct spokesman Bill Nader. "Once we do get approval, the revenue going to New York State from these [slot] machines will be the same revenue as all the Atlantic City gambling combined provides the state of New Jersey." The slot
machines are actually video lottery terminals, which use a
different equation to pay out winners than slot machines use.
Players cannot tell the difference when they are playing the
slot machines, as they look the same. However, since the racing
commission filed for bankruptcy, they stopped the slot machines
from being able to go into the Aqueduct.
