Tobyhanna Approves Pocono Slot MachinesTobyhanna Township Planning Commission has conditionally approved the Pocono Manor Resort and Casino’s preliminary land plan to bring in slot machines. The slot machine casino and resort has received the approval based on several conditions that they must meet before final approval can be given. Final approval must come from the Tobyhanna Supervisors Board only. One of the things the slot machine developer must do is provide a safe traffic plan to and from the Stillwater Estate’s development which is near the site of the proposed slot machine casino. They must also get approval from Pocono Township and Mount Pocono borough – the other two municipalities that make up the Pocono Manor property. They must have compliance with an engineer’s review letter as well as all of Tobyhanna Township’s zoning and building codes. The slot machine casino must also get permit approvals from federal, state and county agencies that would be impacted by the bringing in of slot machines, including but not limited to: the Delaware River Basin Commission, the Monroe County Conservation District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Aviation Administration. The company is planning on bringing in up to 5,000 slot machines, once they receive approval for the site. They are also waiting on hearing whether or not they are approved for their slot machine license, which they should find out on December 20th from the Gaming Control Board.
