New Brunswick Cuts Slot Machines

New Brunswick is known for being at the forefront of gambling by introducing games that no one else has. They were the first to bring in video lottery terminals, and yet now they are cutting the number of gambling machines that they will allow. In addition to cutting the slot machines, they will be bringing in a new casino that has hundreds of slot machines as well. Talk about a contradiction in terms.

New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham says that he is trying to come at responsible gaming from another standpoint. He says that yes they are cutting the number of places that can offer VLTs that there currently are, bringing them down to about 2,000 still in existence.

They are also requiring all of those that keep the machines to be fully trained on how to recognize gambling addiction when they see it. They will also be adding additional monies to that they already spend on gambling addiction today.

The new plan is called “Responsible Management, Responsible Play in a Responsible Environment" and it is their plan for the future. They say that with this new plan, they will be able to help those that need it, and cut back the number of opportunities that they will have to play while they are at it.

However, they are also looking to add in a casino, and it will bring with it another 400-800 slot machines. When asked the difference, they say that this is good business and will bring in a lot of money for the province. They say that with the additional money they will be able to bring in more help for those that need it the most.
