No Slot Machines for Ohio

Governor Ted Strickland has signed into law a bill that will make machines similar to slot machines illegal in the state of Ohio. The governor has been trying to make slot machine type games illegal for some time now but has been running into roadblocks along the way. He says that games that are based on chance, such as slot machines, have been illegal in the state and that some businesses were taking advantage of some loopholes in that law.

The new law states that slot machines are illegal, and changes the definition of “Skill based” machines to make it much clearer for residents and law enforcement alike. It limits payouts to $10 cash prizes and payouts, so that places like Chuck E. Cheese will still be able to operate the games that they were. The bill became effective immediately, without a waiting period.

Both the Senate and the House passed the bill quickly, and those in support of the slot machine type games say that the public was not allowed any input because it was passed so fast. They say that residents should have had time to look over the bill and state whether or not they wanted slot machines to be illegal. However, lawmakers say that residents have spoken, as each time it has come up for a vote at election time they have voted down slot machines.

Basically it says that all games that are based on Chance, that are basically slot machine type games, are now illegal. The law does not apply to darts, bowling, or billiards, but does apply to the popular Tic Tac Fruit slot machines that are found around the state.
