O’Malley Wants Residents To VoteGovernor Martin O’Malley wants to bring in thousands of slot machines to the state of Maryland, but he wants the voters to have a chance to decide if it should happen or not. Bringing in the slot machines would do wonders for the budget shortage, but O’Malley says that it is up to them to hand it to the voters to see what they think. His new proposal is for up to 15,000 slot machines to come into five locations in the state, and the issue has been under consideration and argument for many years now. But O’Malley says that even though the legislature seems to be unable to come up with a decision, if they let the people decide it will end the slot machine discussion for once and for all. He wants to add slot machines to Allegany County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Cecil County, and Worcester County. Many of those previously against bringing in the slot machines supported the proposal to bring it to the voters as they say that this will show the governor that residents do not want them in their state. The
slot machine proposal would bring the vote to residents on a
November 2008 ballot, and House Speaker Michael Busch, who has
previously thwarted attempts to bring in slot machines to the
state said that he thought it was a great idea. It would break
the standoff between him and Senate President Thomas Mike
Miller, and would make the government put the best possible slot
machine bill on the ballot. Back to November Index - Slot Machines Fan |
