Prague Considering Slot Machine Ban

City officials in Prague have been considering how they might restrict some of the gambling that has been steadily growing in Prague, and they think they have stumbled upon the answer. They are now considering a slot machine ban, and believe that although they bring in lots of money from the slot machines, they are not worth the prostitution and crime that come with them.

The districts are not happy about the proposed slot machine ban as they know that they bring in 34 million Kč a year from the machines in Prague alone. However, they know that they have to do something to restrict the amount of gambling that is going on.

The spokesman for Prague 1, Alexander Korab says that they are completely behind the ban on slot machines as they have seen first hand what they do to people. He says that with there being almost 8,000 slot machines in Prague, something has to be done about it. Their council already approved the slot machine ban, but it must be approved still at the next City Assembly meeting.

City Hall says that they are looking to restrict the number of slot machines, not a total ban. They say that they have a new ordinance that they are working on that will allow each part of the city to do something different – something that will work for them individually instead of just a complete ban across the board. They say that although Prague 1 is asking for a complete ban, others are not.

They are more concerned with stopping the growth of slot machines and gambling than they are with removing it altogether. Some of the districts are concerned with locations of slot machines. There are some that are located near schools and other areas that they find inappropriate and would like to see those removed, but not a complete ban.
