Britain’s New Gambling Mecca

Companies outside of Britain are trying very hard to get a foothold in the country ever since the 2005 Gambling Act was passed. There will be one super-casino in the country, as well as many smaller casinos – but everyone wants to know who will get the right to run the big one. It will be quite some time before that decision is made, but in the meantime everyone is gearing up just in case it is them.

The Gambling Commission got so many applications once the announcement was made that they finally had to set a cut off date of April. Everyone is trying to get a smaller casino license before the old regime goes out, and the commission said they got applications for an additional 111 casino licenses, on top of the 139 that already exist. Britain is poised to have the number of casinos increase by 80% even before the super-casino is decided upon.

The whole idea is that the number of slot machines is going to increase drastically. With the new regulations, it will be a slot machine player’s idea of heaven. Each of the new casinos will be able to bring in slot machines, and the super-casino will have more slot machines than anyone else. Construction will show an increase as well, since the number of casinos is going to increase, and there has to be somewhere to put all of the slot machines and gambling areas that will need to be added, including restaurants, bars, cafes, etc.
