Broward Welcomes First Slot Machines

Out came the slot machines, and out came the showgirls – feathered headdresses and all. It was a big day for Broward County, and a big day for Florida – the first slot machines arrived today at Gulfstream Racing & Casino. Since the slot machines were approved over a year ago, people have been anxiously waiting for when they would actually arrive, and the first 400 came today.

They rolled off of the truck and into the slot machine casino, covered in blue plastic wrap to protect them on the trip. This first group came from WMS Gaming, and there will be others to follow – from International Gaming Technology (IGT) and Bally Technologies.

Gulfstream is planning a mid November opening, and with the arrival of today’s slot machines, it seems that it is a distinct possibility.

''We are weeks and days away,'' said Paul Micucci, president of Gulfstream Park. “We are very excited. As you can see, the games are here.''
