Dixon Downs ApprovalAfter six years Dixon Downs has finally gotten the go ahead for their racetrack. They have been patiently waiting for the Dixon City Council to approve the plan, and now that they finally have they can get moving on it. The vote to approve was a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Steve Alexander casting the only dissenting vote. He says he was concerned with the traffic and noise that the racetrack will bring with it, and those issues were not properly solved with the latest proposal. Coucil member Loren Ferrero voted to approve the plan, but said that he was concerned about what it might do to the small town nature of Dixon. He is however, hoping that the racetrack will help to revitalize the downtown area, and bring more jobs. Magna Entertainment Corp was very happy that they finally got approved. Lorne Kumer, VP of Development said, "All the pros and cons were weighed, and the benefits of the project far outweighed the negatives…The city of Dixon negotiated a development agreement that will certainly do a lot of things for this town." Opponents are not willing to give up the fight however, and are attempting to collect 700 signatures to force a special election on the issue in March. Many are afraid that Magna Corp will try to bring in slot machines to the racetrack, something that Magna has denied. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to October Index - Slot Machines Fan |
