The First Slot Machine Casino in PA to Open

Pennsylvania has a date for their first slot machine casino opening, it will be November 14^th, and the casino will be the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The slot machines will be up and running outside of Wilkes-Barre, to the delight of many residents.

The casino will have the first of 61,000 slot machines up and running, with others to follow. They are just one of five casinos who received their slot machine licenses last month, and they were happy to announce that they have won the right to be the first open. They made their announcement on Monday – and they are feeling pretty good about it. Their CEO Robert Soper said, "I think there's a feeling not only of relief but excitement that we're able to move forward and we have an actual opening date that is not too far off.”

They spent $70 million on a 40,000 sq ft slot machine parlor that will hold 1,083 slot machines initially, plus a bar, food court, etc. The first shipment of slot machines arrived Monday morning from WMS Gaming Inc., and the casino thinks they will bring in gamblers from Northeastern PA as well as New York and New Jersey. They have hired 400 people to run the casino and the second phase of the casino will double the number of slot machines that they will house as well as bringing in additional amenities.

If all goes well with their private invitation events that they will be holding on November 10^th and 12^th, they will be able to open their doors to the general public on the 14^th – confident that everything will work successfully.
