Forum Gets FeistyThe University of Guam Student Center was the site of a forum yesterday as to whether or not Proposal B should be approved or not. Proposal B will bring in slot machines to Guam Greyhound Racetrack, and many say that it is a bad idea. Jon Anderson, the spokesman for Guam Greyhound said that they would be bringing in 500 jobs as well as $3 million a year in slot machine gaming taxes. Jackie Marati attacked those claims saying that the $3 million a year would only be earned by Guam after $300 million was bet. She also said that most slot machine revenues are taxed at 30% and wanted to know why Guam Greyhound was only paying 10%. She also said that the number of jobs they claim are being created was not true, and that the slot machines would end up claiming jobs as people became addicted to them. She said there are other forms of gambling on Guam, and that they didn’t need slot machines added to the mix. One of the questions asked was how much Anderson was being paid to be Guam Greyhound’s spokesman, and Anderson would not give the dollar amount. He said it was private information. Marati said that her group was all volunteers but one, who was paid $350 every two weeks. They were discussing how much each group was putting out to either bring in or defeat the slot machine proposal. Anderson said the group had made its spending disclosures with the election commission, but declined to name his own salary at the forum. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to October Index - Slot Machines Fan |
