Japan’s Electric Bill

For the first time in three months the demand for electric has gone up. It seems to be directly related to the recent increase in spending among residents, as the country seems to be going through a shopping spurt. Everything in the country it seems is for sale and it is going fast. From slot machines to golf balls, the country is spending their money.

The Bank of Japan did a survey in October that says consumers are having more confidence in their bankers, retailers, and construction companies than they have had in more than 16 years.

The Trade Ministry said that all spending is up – movie theatre receipts are up 13%, golf sales are up 14%, and the amount of money spent on slot machines is up 28%. The Japanese are fond of a slot machine game called pachinko, and they are playing it in record numbers.
