There is something to be said for keeping the change, for eventually it does add up. There are stories of people who have kept all of their change in a large jar, and then when they cashed it in they discovered they had thousands of dollars just sitting there. Probably not a good investment considering they don’t get interest on that money, but otherwise it is an excellent way to save.

The problem is figuring out what to do with all of that change when you are done. Some people like sitting and wrapping all of their change, some are not so excited by it. There are various ways around it, some people take it to the casinos. There they have the cashiers cash it in, for they don’t know that you didn’t just win that at one of their slot machines. There is a company called CoinStar that will take your money for a fee. You dump your coins into it and it cashes them out for you. It puts out a ticket that says how much you are owed, and you take it to a cashier and they give you the cash. They are usually located in grocery stores, things of that nature, so that you can get your cash there and then. Some machines offer a fee free option – if you put your money in but get a gift card for it instead of cash, you don’t pay a fee. It is kind of like playing a slot machine that you don’t win or lose!
