Are Learn and Earn’s Numbers Real?Ohio’s Learn and Earn is trying to get slot machines into the state. They say that they are beneficial to the state for they will bring in billions of dollars of revenue. This is slot machine revenue that will be used for various programs throughout the state, including scholarships for students. However, opponents to bringing in slot machines tell a different story. They say that while Learn and Earn has been promoting themselves as the savior of students who cannot afford to go to college, they say that really they are only interested in getting slot machines into the state. They say that they are backed by racetracks that are only looking to support their businesses and will be able to do so by bringing in slot machines. They also say that for the amount of money that is coming in there really isn’t a large enough percentage going to the scholarship fund. They claim that the amount of money being projected it grossly overstated. They said that Learn and Earn says they will be bringing in $2.8 billion in slot revenue annually, with $850 million going to the students. They say that in order to get that kind of money, they would need to be larger than the biggest slot machine parlor in Indiana. Indiana is currently the largest place for gambling outside of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. They say that Learn and Earn used to say that they would bring in $2.3 billion, and then all of a sudden it went up to $2.8 billion. Opponents think that if that number is off, so is the amount of money they are planning on giving to the scholarship fund. Learn and Earn says they only need to bring in $247 a day per slot machine, which they think is more than appropriate since Indiana’s slot machines average $322 a day. They think it is a justifiable estimate, and say that their numbers were verified by an outside source. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to October Index - Slot Machines Fan |
