Ontario has a help line for those that have a slot machine and gambling problem. The help line is supposed to help those in need, and they can call it at any time. The 1-800 number has been very popular, although not really with those it has been meant for.

The addicted gamblers hotline is actually being used by thousands of people, who are calling to see what the winning lottery numbers are. Through some mix up in the ads that the hotline has been running, people have gotten the idea that gambling help means we will help you find out if you have won, instead of if you have a problem with slot machines we will help you stop.

The number of “misdirected” phone calls to Ontario’s Problem Gambling Hotline is literally in the thousands. They had over 13,000 calls last year from people looking for the winning numbers. According to the government agency that runs the hotline, their numbers are actually smaller than in other regions. And those that call the Ontario helpline actually get a little more than they bargained for.

When they call, the people who answer the phone talk to them about the number of tickets they purchase, etc., to make sure that the person who is calling isn’t actually in need themselves. The government has decided that they need to change their marketing strategy for the call center, and explain what it is they do better. They currently have their number on every one of the province’s slot machines, all 13,069 of them. Even if you don’t play the slot machines, the number is listed all over the slot machine parlors, as well as on ATM machines in the slot machine facilities.
