Mohegan Sun Prepping for Opening

The Mohegan Sun, as everyone knows by now, should be the first slot machine casino open in the state of Pennsylvania. Some however, are starting to have their doubts as to whether or not that was a feasible time table. They are still doing construction, and haven’t even received half of their slot machines yet.

On Monday, Robert Soper, CEO for the Mohegan Sun held a press conference at the casino to unveil the first slot machines to arrive in the state. The press conference was held under the slot machine hall’s entrance canopy as the $70 million in upgrades has not been completed yet.

Of 1,100 slot machines that are to arrive at the casino before its official opening, only 125 have actually arrived. None of them have been installed yet, and even after they are installed they need to be tested. Not only do the slot machines need to be individually tested, but the internal computer system that runs in the casino will need to be tested as well. There are also software programs that are required by the state that must be tested before the slot machine casino can open.

They are planning on having two test nights of the slot machine casino on November 10^th and 12^th before the grand opening on November 14^th. The first night must be able to support 1,000 people, and the second night must be able to handle 1,600. All proceeds from the first two nights will go to the united Way of Wyoming Valley.
