New State Rep Up for Grabs

It has been 26 years since the 46^th Legislative District has had a race this exciting. They are electing a new state representative and the Republican Paul Snatchko is facing Democrat Jesse White which will determine whether or not the GOP keeps its lead in the state House.

Both candidates are experienced, but both are also very young. They do not have any of the old baggage that many of the other elections are showing this time around, but one thing that is important to note is that they both take a hands-off approach when talking about slot machines and gambling. Both candidates would like to think that the slot machine revenue will help with the tax problems that they are having, but neither one thinks that there is enough information yet to know whether or not slot machine revenue will help them or not.

They both say that property taxes are the number one concern this November, and that if they could eliminate school property taxes it would help a lot. However, to just remove them without enough slot machine revenue to fill the void would leave them with a $9 billion deficit in their budget.

This area seems to have a large senior population, which makes it tough for them to pay property taxes for schools that they don’t have use for. However, they still need them to pay them until the slot machine revenue can change the system otherwise.
