The Mohegan Sun is celebrating finally receiving its slot machine license, and had already ordered their slot machines. Roughly 300 of the machines will come from Bally Technologies, with the others coming from various manufacturers. However, all of the 1,083 slot machines that the Mohegan has ordered will not take your money - or at least, not your change.

Gone are the days of sticking a coin in a slot machine and waiting for the coins to drop. All of the slot machines that the Mohegan Sun is bringing in are using the new cashless technology. They use the “Ticket-in, ticket-out” type of slot machine, with will take paper money or cards with money on them, but will not take coins.

There will be self-service kiosks set up around the casino that will cash in their slot machine winnings for them, but gone are the days of the coins dropping into the bin on the bottom. You can buy a card with a certain amount on it that will hold your winnings for you, and then you can cash that in as well. They then take those cards from slot machine to slot machine and take their wins and losses with them.

Casinos say it is a much easier way of dealing with winnings, and many players agree. They say that they prefer the tickets so that they don’t have to carry around buckets full of change. Plus, they like the idea of not touching money someone else has handled. Opponents of the new slot machines say that people will lose more if they aren’t actually handling the money themselves – but experts say that this has not been the case so far, and there have been thousands of slot machines like these that have already been in operation in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
