Quechan Tribe Compact SignedThe Quechan Tribe must be feeling pretty good about themselves these days. They have been trying for a year to get a revised gambling agreement signed – to no avail. Then, just when all seemed lost, Governor Schwarzenegger signed a bill ratifying their latest compact yesterday. The new compact that was signed will now allow the tribe to bring in and operate up to 1,100 slot machines – in return they will have to pay the state an annual fee of 10-25% of their net earnings, which has been estimated at somewhere in the market of $5-7 million. The strange thing is that the Quechan compact was not expected to be signed by the governor, and when he did, it became the only one signed by the end of the 2006 legislative session. They don’t come back until January now. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians stalled out in the legislature and was not approved before the end of the session. They had been looking to bring in more slot machines as well as another casino. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to October Index - Slot Machines Fan |
