Seneca Nation Cuts CheckThe Seneca Allegany Casino was the site of a rather large presentation. The Seneca Nation gave the State of New York a check for over $68 million. Seneca Nation Treasurer Maurice John thinks that this should take care of any lingering doubts as to how beneficial the tribe is to the state. The Nation signed a compact with the state in 2002 that covered three Western New York casinos. They pay 18% of the total amount put into the slot machines for the first four years that the casinos and the slot machines are in business. After that the percentages go up until they reach 25% over the life of the 21 year agreement. Then the state’s share is split among the hosting municipalities – they get 25%. Therefore, $45 million comes from Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel, and $23 million comes from Seneca Allegany Casino proceeds. That money then goes out to the hosting towns – with $11.3 million to Niagara Falls; and $5.7 million gets split between Cattaraugus County, Salamanca and the Salamanca City Central School District. But according to the tribe, they do more than just bring in money; they also bring in jobs – more than 4,000 jobs. They say that the best thing they could have done for the area is to bring in slot machines – the benefits are immeasurable. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to October Index - Slot Machines Fan |
