Will a Stadium Ever Happen?

For years there has been talk of bringing in various sporting teams, and talk of new stadiums to house them in. But it is really just that – a lot of talk. They have discussed Miami, Bicentennial Park, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, you name it - they have talked about putting in a stadium there.

The problem is every time they talk about bringing in a stadium the proposals are short hundreds of millions of dollars. The latest plan brings it in at Pompano Park, but as everyone else seems to know but the politicians, no one expects the Marlins to play here. They think this one will go away as well, without the funding needed to put it in place. They think they have come up with something new this time, however, and they have. With the slot machines coming in, they are thinking that they can use the slot machine revenue that the state gets to build a new stadium.

''It would be wonderful,'' said Mayor John Rayson. He is envisioning a top of the line stadium with all the bells and whistles, including a retractable roof.

But if you look at the figures, it might actually be doable. The other plans did not factor slot machines into them, and this one does – which really sets it apart from the rest.
