Are Voters Ready for Slot Machines?

The Ohio group Learn and Earn is everywhere in the news these days trying to get people to approve a slot machine proposal that would bring slot machines to Ohio. Some say it is a great idea, it will bring in jobs and money for college students – others say that their numbers are blown up and that the amount of social ills the slot machines would bring into the state are just not worth any amount of slot machine revenue.

The amount of slot machines they want to bring into the state really is staggering. They want to bring in up to 31,500 slot machines, which is really more than the state can support at this time. The Vote Yes on Issue 3 Committee is spending millions upon millions of dollars to get the slot machines and casinos brought into the state.

Their opponents point out that not only have the numbers as far as how much slot revenue would actually go to the state keep changing, they say that they were never even close to begin with. They say that the only people who would really benefit from the slot machines is the Learn and Earn Group who would end up pocketing millions of dollars.

They are not the first group to try and bring in slot machines, but the slot machines have been defeated twice before at the ballot, and more times than you can count in the legislature. But for some reason they think this time they will be approved. Many think it has to do with the link to the education that they are touting this time, but opponents say not to be fooled, the amount will not even be close to what they are promising.
