Sands Needs ApprovalsSands Bethworks is waiting to see if their approvals will come in and if they can begin building their $600 million slot machine casino complex. They cannot start until they have the proper paperwork, and they would like to begin next week. However, they cannot until approved. The company has spent the last few months tearing down the old Bethlehem Steel buildings to make way for the slot machine casino, although they left many structures so that they could integrate them into the property. But until approved they cannot begin, and they would like to start pouring the foundations for the casino next week. As of right now they are on track for a Spring 2009 opening, but that could very well change. They are building their casino to hold 5,000 slot machines even though they are only approved for 3,000. The casino says that they are so confident that they will be among the most popular in the state that they are adding the additional space now so that when approved they can simply add in the additional slot machines. Casino officials say that there are 17 million people within range of the casino, so they are not concerned that there will be other slot machine casinos open before them. They say that there is plenty of possible customers and are not concerned at all. They say that traffic issues were a concern, but they believe that they have satisfied those concerns as well.
