Foxwoods Looking to Expand

The two largest casinos in the world are located in Connecticut and they are the Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Resort and Casino. Now it looks as though one of them is looking to get even larger, as the Foxwoods Casino announces that they are looking to expand.

John O’Brien, President of Foxwoods says that they are looking to move into Massachusetts to expand their empire. With Massachusetts clearly considering allowing slot machines to be legalized, many companies and tribes have been trying to get in on the ground floor.

The tribe knows that with as many states looking to get into the slot machine business, they need to be looking outside of what they already have for other revenue sources. They know that looking outside of CT at other states could enable them to capitalize on other slot machine industries to support those funds that will inevitably be lost by other states adding slots as well.

With Massachusetts residents gambling roughly $900 million a year at casinos across their borders, the state knows that it is a smart move to try and keep some of that gambling money in house. The Mashantucket Pequots know that they want to get their piece of the pie and are therefore looking to expand into untapped territory.

Rhode Island is another state that provides both workers and revenue. About 15% of their workers come from the state, as does 15% of their revenue. Bidding on the Massachusetts slot machine casinos could start as early as fall.
