NCAGE Warns Against Slot Machine Addiction

The National Coalition Against Gambling Expansion warned Maryland lawmakers that slot machines are “rigged” and will only create addiction problems for residents of the state. Experts agree with the group, saying that there is a reason they are called the crack cocaine of gambling, because of their addictive nature.

Experts say that the only thing that slot machines are meant to do is make people play longer and faster, which increases the rush when they win – hence leading to addiction. The coalition NCAGE says that slot machines are designed to be addictive, and they are attempting to stop the rush of states that are looking for a quick fix for their monetary problems by preying on the weak of their states.

They say that they checked the numbers and 90% of the people who attend Gambler’s Anonymous meetings are slot machine addicts. They say that designers are aware of this, and that they exploit it to their advantage. They say that the companies look at each slot machine gambler as a “potential addict” and work it to their advantage.

With Maryland currently the only state still under the influence of anti gambling members, and surrounded by states that have legalized slot machines, the fight to keep the slot machines out has gotten much harder. NCAGE says that with Governor Martin O’Malley now calling for the addition of slot machines as well it will only add to the addiction that fills the area. They say that the governors of those states that allow slot machines are “ready to mug their own citizens.”
