Oklahoma Ranks Third

Out of all of the states that allow slot machines, it seems that Oklahoma ranks third in the nation. A recent study from the North American Gaming Almanac of the gambling industry has found that Oklahomans spend more than $600 per capita to gamble, which is really high considering the fact that they are going up against states like Nevada and New Jersey.

In November 2004, residents approved slot machines and expanded gambling in the state, and now they have one slot machine for every 79 residents. The state has 97 casinos, and more than 45,000 slot machines. This number equates to 5.5% of all slot machines in the nation. Until Pennsylvania has all of its 61,000 slot machines up and running, Oklahoma will be third behind Nevada who has 206,419 slot machines and California who has 64,510.

The slot machine gambling industry does well with tourists as well as locals. They found that they were bringing in $617.87 on average per capita, and these numbers include tourists as well as residents. The state has seen an increase over past years, with this year’s figure three times higher than what was reported in 2003.

With an increase in income from the state, it would seem likely that more people now feel that they have more disposable income to spend at the slot machines. Income had increased by 22.6% which explains the increase in slot machine wagers.
