FRC Wants No Vote on Slot MachinesThe Family Research Council is urging residents to vote against bringing in slot machines. Maryland’s church leaders are getting together to hold a news conference on October 30th at 1:30 pm to get voters to vote No on Question 2 on the state’s ballot. The church leaders are banding together as they say that the impact that slot machines would have on their communities would be devastating. They say that slot machines prey on families and the poor, and they must be stopped. The church leaders have come together across denominational and ethnic lines to urge voters that the decision to legalize slot machines would be a bad one for everyone. It is usually the poor and ill educated that play the slot machines, and it is because they don’t fully understand that they can’t win. They say that the state might be pushing for slot machines to shore up various programs that they want funded, but the financial consequences as well as the moral consequences are just too high of a price to pay. They might see millions coming in initially, but to cure the addiction that would come from the slot machines and the programs that would have to be funded to help those families affected by them would far outweigh any initial benefits.
