Alberta Gets Native-Run CasinoThe Enoch Cree Nation reserve, an aboriginal tribe, has gotten its first casino and Alberta residents couldn’t be more excited. The reserve is only weeks away from completing its $178 million River Cree Resort and Casino – which makes it months ahead of schedule. The complex is located at the southwest edge of Edmonton, and will be a huge boon for jobs in the area. They are anticipating 200 of the jobs going to Enoch Cree, within the next month. There are approximately 800 jobs to be filled, and they have seen over 5,000 applications for the positions. Robert Morin, President of Enoch Casino Corp, said, “I'd be happy with anywhere from 100 to 200 [Enoch Cree] out of the 800. If there's more than that that would be great." The unemployment rate of the group is nearly 65%, which is obviously not good for them. There were almost 300 construction workers hired to build the casino, and 30 of them were Enoch. The gaming room is going to have 600 slot machines, plus gaming tables, bars, restaurants, rinks, etc. The casino will end up being a third larger than the current largest casino already operating. The Yellowhead Casino was the city’s largest slot machine and gambling casino up until now. Depending on how the casino is doing, there is also a chance that they will end up doubling the number of slot machines they are planning on opening with. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
