BG&LC Cracking Down

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission is exerting control over the gaming lounge industry. The amount of fraudulent activity has forced the group to get involved in the industry and is putting its foot down. They have already barred several owners and operators from entering the software of the slot machines, and is trying to establish a minimum payout ratio of 80%. Their organization is usually responsible for the issuance and review of gaming licenses, and is now becoming more of a “big brother” figure instead.

After forming a technical audit of all of the slot machines out there, they have now come to the conclusion that the operators cannot be allowed to enter software into the slot machines. Derek Peart, Executive Director of the group said, “"We have been examining the hardware and software of these machines…we have just recently completed a technical audit, done by Gaming Lab, on all the machines that are in these lounges. We have now put seals on the central processing unit...they cannot be entered into without the expressed approval of this commission. The new system that we have in place is designed to protect the customers from unscrupulous behavior."

Slot machines are normally programmed to pay out a percentage of their take as winnings to the customers that are playing them. However, there have been some discrepancies as to which company is paying enough, and which ones aren’t. With the new system, the owners won’t be able to mess with the machines, and hence, everyone will be paying the same.
