Cincinnati Councilwoman Drops SuitMuch to the dismay of opponents to the Ohio Learn and Earn slot machine initiative, Cincinnati City Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz announced on Monday that she is dismissing her lawsuit against the organization. The group wants to bring slot machine gambling to Ohio, and has been canvassing the state to get signatures to support putting a slot machine initiative on the November ballot. The group has collected the required number of signatures, but is still in the certification process with the Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell. If the voters choose to approve it, then slot machines would be allowed in seven Ohio racetracks, and two new slot machine parlors would be built in Cleveland. Ghiz had filed the suit alleging that the group was misrepresenting the slot machine initiative by not telling voters what it was that they were actually signing. They said that they were just telling people that it was to bring money into the state to support college scholarships, but were not telling them that it was legalizing slot machine gambling in the state. She chose to dismiss the suit, but retained the right to re-file it if deemed necessary. Learn and Earn has agreed to pay Cincinnati "significant but yet unspecified amount of money," if the slot machine initiative is voted in. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
